NEW ORLEANS, La. — The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced Monday the 2019 NCAA Division III Indoor All-Region honorees that included Southern Virginia University's Derek Blasko and Baylee Mulitalo.
A total of 1590 All-Region awards were given to over 190 different institutions. To be named to the All-Region an athlete must finish top-five in their respective event with eight regions awarding All-Region honors.
This is the first time in the program's history that an individual(s) have been named to the All-Region Indoor team after last indoor the season the Knights' distance medley team earned the honor.
Blasko led the men's team winning a handful of meets and winning the shot put at the CAC Championships setting the school record in the event with a throw of 15.53m.
Mulitalo was named the CAC Indoor Rookie of the Year after finishing first in the shot put and third in the weight throw at the CAC Championships. Mulitalo also set the school record this season with a mark of 13.20m at the Roanoke Maroons NCAA Final Qualifier.
"This is a representation of the hard work that they both have put in throughout our indoor season," said head coach Wyatt Warnick. "We are looking forward to the progression in the outdoor season where they will add more events with the javelin and discus events."
