ROANOKE, Va. – The Southern Virginia University track and field team concluded their second indoor season in exciting fashion this weekend at the Roanoke Last Chance Qualifier. The Knights produced eight lifetime bests to go along with two program records.
Abigail Kinoshita set a school record in the 400 meters after running 1:07.62 to finish third overall at the meet. Freshman McKenna Maloney followed close behind in fifth for the Knights.
Michael Myers led the men on the track with strong finishes in his two events. With a time of 1:59.14 in the 800 meters, Myers posted a program best and finished the indoor season with the fourth fastest time in the Capital Athletic Conference. He followed up with a strong performance in the men's 3,000 meters, winning the race with a time of 9:12.
Head coach Elizabeth Wilson is optimistic about the progression of her athletes during this transitional phase in the season.
"We are in the middle of a tough training cycle between the indoor and outdoor season," she commented. We are really excited for eight of our athletes that were able to improve their lifetime bests."
The Knights return to action on March 16 & 17 when they compete in the W&L Track and Field Carnival in Lexington, Va.
