Four Knights Earn VaSID Men's Tennis All-State Honors

BRIDGEWATER, Va. — The Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) today announced the 2019-2020 VaSID Men's Tennis All-State Teams with Southern Virginia University's doubles team Kukutla Motlojoa and Danny Blonquist earning All-State First Team and duo Paul Monson and Marcos Dias earning All-State Second Team. Dias earned the program's first Rookie of the Year honors while also adding a First Team selection in singles while Motlojoa earned Second Team honors.

The program hit several milestones with their nominations this year. Both doubles teams honors mark the first time in program history that two Southern Virginia doubles teams become the most in program history to receive All-State honors while Motlojoa and Dias mark the first time multiple athletes earn All-State selections in both singles and doubles.

From the No. 1 position in doubles, the No. 13 nationally-ranked pair of Motlojoa and Blonquist held onto a dominant 17-3 overall record before the sudden end to the season while becoming the first duo to be alternates for the NCAA National Doubles Championship. Blonquist and Motlojoa also end the season ranked third in the Atlantic South Region Rankings, just behind Salisbury University and Johns Hopkins University.

Dias and Monson posted an impressive 7-2 record in matches played together from the No. 2 position while having their more dominant outing at the Marlin Open and a strong win against No. 14 Carnegie Mellon 8-6.

In singles matches, Dias wrapped up his first year with the Knights from the No. 1 position with a dominant 13-1 overall record with his lone loss coming from Johns Hopkins at the ITA Regional Championship. The Sao Paulo, Brazil native's commanding play earned his selection to VaSID All-State First Team and Rookie of the Year honors.

Motloajoa concluded his singles season with an 11-4 record at the No. 2 position and brought his career record to 21-6 in singles matches. Along with his All-State selection, the Masero, Lesotho native earned All-CAC Second Team and was named CAC Player of the Week twice.

VaSID names 44 all-state teams in 23 sports each year, as well as an Academic All-State squad and an all-sports champion in both the University and College Divisions. Membership in VaSID is open to all media relations professionals working at a university or conference in the state of Virginia.
