Knights Drop Heartbreaker at No. 36 NYU, 5-4

BRONX, NY.— The Southern Virginia University men's tennis team fell just short in a battle with No. 36 New York University on Saturday morning, 5-4. With the loss, the men's team falls to 6-4 on the year.

The Knights started strong in doubles, earning two of the three total points. Kukutla Motlojoa and Daniel Blonquist got it going, facing little resistance in their 8-3 rout of the Violets at the top spot. The Knights third doubles team fell 8-3, evening up the match at one, before Marcos Dias and Paul Monson took down their opponents at No. 2, 8-4.

Dias was the first member of the team to finish in singles, with a dominating 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 1. Daniel Blonquist finished soon after, taking down NYU's No. 3 man, 6-3, 6-1. Ethan Sherwood and Tanner Bassett were next off the court, falling 6-4, 6-2, and 6-4, 6-4 respectively.

Both Kukutla Motlojoa and Ben Spencer found themselves in long, tough matches, but were both ousted as Motlojoa fell 6-3, 7-6(4), and Spencer 6-3, 7-5.

The men's tennis team looks to bounce back on the 14th of March as they travel to Christopher Newport University for a conference matchup beginning at 10:00 a.m.
