STEVENSON, Md.— The Southern Virginia University men's tennis team rolled over the 2018-19 MAC Commonwealth champions Stevenson University on Friday afternoon 8-1. With the win, the Knights improve to 5-1 on the season.
In doubles, Southern Virginia was able to collect two of the three doubles points as the duo of Andrew Blonquist and Ethan Sherwood finished first, collecting an 8-0 victory at the top spot. The Knights also won at the No. 3 flight 8-2 as newcomer Sam Larson made his college debut alongside Senior Kukutla Motlojoa.
In singles, the Knights won handily at all six positions, dropping a combined eight games between all six matches. Ethan Sherwood finished first with a 6-0, 6-0 victory, followed quickly by Tanner Bassett who won 6-1, 6-1. Daniel Blonquist and Marcos Dias were next off the court as Dias downed his opponent 6-0, 6-1, with Blonquist quickly following 6-1, 6-1. Ben Spencer and Kukutla Motlojoa were last off, winning 6-0, 6-1, and 6-1, 6-1 respectively.
The Knights will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 22, as they travel to Pennsylvania for a doubleheader against No. 33 Swarthmore College and regionally ranked Franklin & Marshall College with match times scheduled for 9 a.m. and 6 p.m.
