FREDERICKSBURG, Va. — The Capital Athletic Conference today released the 2020 Men's Tennis Preseason Poll, with Southern Virginia University projected to finish third.

Defending champion Mary Washington trails closely behind the Captains, followed by Southern Virginia University, who receives their highest placing in school history while receiving one first-place vote, Salisbury, York, and St. Mary's.

After a 13-6 overall record and a 4-3 record in the CAC, the Knights look to carry their momentum into the spring season. Southern Virginia University wrapped up their fall 2019 season going undefeated with wins over Shaw, Pfeiffer, Randolph, and York.

The Knights bring back All-CAC First Team pair Danny Blonquist and Kukutla Motlojoa. The duo began their 2019 fall season ranked No. 22 in the country and come into the 2020 spring season with the No. 9 overall ranking. In their 2018-2019 campaign, the two earned VaSID All-State First Team Doubles Honors.

Southern Virginia University also welcome back All-CAC Second Teamer Paul Monson. Monson played the No. 1 spot for Southern Virginia University in singles. Marcos Dias will join Monson in his first year with the Knights looking to contribute to the team's success.

Other notable returners for Southern Virginia University are Tanner Bassett and Ben Spencer. Bassett comes back to the team after serving a two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Bassett played the No. 1 spot his freshman year in singles. Spencer enters his senior season with a 15-5 singles record and 18-3 doubles record and aims to continue his current success for the squad.

The Knights begin their season on Feb. 8, taking on No. 14 Carnegie Mellon. The match is set to start at 3 p.m.
