BUENA VISTA, Va.— The Southern Virginia University men's tennis team defeated both Randolph College and York College of Pennsylvania 9-0 on Saturday morning in a pair of home matches.
The Knights (4-0) started off the morning against Randolph, dropping no games in doubles.
In singles, Ethan Sherwood and Tanner Bassett finished first for Southern Virginia, both earning 6-0, 6-0 wins at the No.'s 3 and 4 flights. Paul Monson and Will Stoddard finished next, both only dropping one game as Monson took down his opponent 6-1, 6-0, and Stoddard 6-0, 6-1. Kukutla Motlojoa finished last at the No. 1 spot with a 6-1, 6-2 victory, sealing the sweep.
Later on in the day, the Knights faced off against York College of Pennsylvania in a conference matchup.
In doubles, the nationally ranked duo of Daniel Blonquist and Kukutla Motlojoa finished first, dominating their opponents 8-0. Monson and Bassett finished next at No. 3 with a solid 8-1 win, while Ben Spencer and Ethan Sherwood closed out doubles 8-3.
In the first set of singles matches, Motlojoa made quick work of his man again, dropping no games. Monson and Blonquist finished moments after Motlojoa, as the two won 6-0, 6-1, and 6-1, 6-1, respectively.
In the second set of matches, Bassett and Sherwood won 6-1, 6-1 and 6-0, 6-1, and Spencer closed out the day 6-2, 6-2.
The men's tennis team will continue action in the spring as they will take on James Madison University on the 18th of January at 10 a.m.
