MISENHEIMER, NC. — The Southern Virginia University men's tennis team closed out their weekend of matches with a 7-2 victory over Pfeiffer University on Saturday morning.
The Knights (2-0) swept the doubles matches as Daniel Blonquist, and Kukutla Motlojoa earned an 8-4 victory at the No. 1 spot, Paul Monson and Marcos Dias won 8-3 at No. 2, and Andrew Blonquist and Jake Fisher took down their opponents 8-4 at No. 3.
In singles, Dias finished first for Southern Virginia as he made quick work of his opponent with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at the No. 1 spot. Monson quickly followed at No. 2, dropping no games en route to a 6-0, 6-0 win, clinching the match for the Knights. The last two wins of the day for Southern Virginia came at the No's. 3 and 4 positions as Ben Spencer and Ethan Sherwood dominated their opponents 6-1, 6-0, and 6-0, 6-0.
The Knights fell just short at No's. 5 and 6 singles, dropping both matches in close third-set super tiebreakers.
Southern Virginia will retake the court on the 27th of September as they travel to Virginia Beach to participate in the Marlin Invitational.
