EWING TOWNSHIP, NJ. — The Southern Virginia University men's tennis team opened the season with several wins at the College of New Jersey Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
In the first round of play, the nationally ranked duo of Daniel Blonquist and Kukutla Motlojoa earned the first win of the day for the Knights taking down the top team from Division II opponent University of the Sciences, 8-6.
In the second round, Freshman Marcos Dias earned his debut win as he teamed up with Monson to dominate the No. 1 squad from Sciences, 8-1.
Spencer also won again, pairing up with Junior Andrew Blonquist to take down the No. 3 team from TCNJ 8-5. Immediately following the win, Blonquist retook the court to take a 6-4 win against Sciences No. 3 team with partner Jake Fisher, who played for Southern Virginia in the 2015-16 season and recently returned from a mission.
Tanner Bassett, who also played for the Knights in 2015-2016 and recently returned from a mission, teamed up with Dias to take the last match of the day for Southern Virginia, 6-3 over the No. 2 team from Sciences.
The Knights return to action on the 20th of September as they will travel to Division II opponent Shaw University with match-time scheduled for 4 p.m.
