Men’s Tennis Downed 5-1 in CAC Semifinal

FREDERICKSBURG, Va.—The Southern Virginia University men's tennis team fell at the University of Mary Washington 5-1 in the semifinals of the CAC Tournament on Tuesday afternoon.

The highlight of the match for the Knights came at the No. 1 doubles position as Kukutla Motlojoa and Daniel Blonquist, who are currently ranked sixth in the region, took down Mary Washington's team who are ranked second in the region, 8-4.

At second doubles, Paul Monson and Ben Spencer also faced off against a regionally ranked team, falling in a tiebreaker 8-7(3) after having a match point up 7-5.

In singles, Southern Virginia fell at the Nos. 5 and 6 spots 6-4, 6-2 and 6-1, 6-3 giving Mary Washington a 4-1 match lead. The Knights then fell at No. 3 6-2, 6-3 giving the Eagles the fifth point to clinch the match.

Monson, Motlojoa, and Spencer were all still in their second set when the match was clinched.

The Knights end the season with a 13-6 record and are ranked #16 in the region, the first time the program has ever been ranked.
