Men’s Tennis Dominates in CAC Tournament First Round

BUENA VISTA, Va.—The Southern Virginia University men's tennis team earned a first-round win in the CAC tournament for the second straight year, taking down St. Mary's College of Maryland 5-0 on Saturday afternoon.

The Knights (13-5) swept the doubles points as the Nos. 2 and 3 teams both earned 8-4 victories, while the regionally ranked first doubles duo of Kukutla Motlojoa and Daniel Blonquist won 8-1.

In singles, Zac Bowers finished first, making quick work of his opponent at the No. 6 flight 6-1, 6-1. Andrew Blonquist quickly followed with a 6-2, 6-1 win, clinching the match for the Knights 5-0.

Once Blonquist finished, the rest of the singles matches were called due to CAC tournament rules specifying that unfinished matches end immediately when a team clinches the match.

Southern Virginia will compete in the second round of the CAC tournament on the 30th of April at 4:00 p.m. as they will take on the University of Mary Washington.
