Shepherdstown W.Va. – The Southern Virginia University men's tennis team defeated its NCAA DII opponent Shepherd University 8-1 in their opening match of the season.

Starting the match off strong were the three doubles teams. No. 1 and 2 doubles both defeated their opponents by a score of 8-4 while No. 3 doubles didn't drop a game in their match.

Only one Knight fell during the singles matches. Andrew Blonquist, a freshman from Mapleton Utah, did not drop a game in either of his matches.

"I am excited with how our team handled the pressure," said head coach Thomas Snelson, "We were playing a team from a much bigger school and the team performed very well."

The Knights will travel again this Saturday, Sept, 16 to Wise, Va. to play the University of Virginia at Wise at 2 p.m.
