Wise, Va. – Winning their second straight match of the season, the Southern Virginia University men's tennis team (2-0) defeated NCAA Division II opponent University of Virginia at Wise 9-0.
Both the No. 1 and 3 doubles defeated their opponents handily with a score of 8-1. After a slow start, the No. 2 doubles team defeated their opponents 9-7 to put the Knights up 3-0 in the match.
In singles, the Knights were determined to continue their lead. At No. 1, Paul Monson only dropped one game on his path to victory. No. 3 Thomas John Snelson and No. 4 Tanner O'Brien defeated their opponents 6-2, 6-2 and 6-2, 6-1, respectively.
"I am extremely pleased with my players' composure during the match," said coach Snelson. "This is the second time that we have played an NCAA Division II team this year and our team has shown that they can handle it. Everyone has a collegiate win and our team feels very confident."
The Knights will be back in action Monday, Sept. 18 when they travel to Concord University in Athens, W. Va. at 3:30 p.m.
