Men's Tennis Picks Up First WIn

BUENA VISTA, Va.— The Southern Virginia University men's tennis team earned its first victory of the season, 6-3, over Lynchburg College Thursday afternoon at The Tennis Courts in Buena Vista, Va.

The Knights picked up an early 3-0 lead over the Hornets in doubles play. Dallin Evans and Kjell Henness defeated opponents by an 8-6 score. Brennan Alford and Cort Cox followed suit and won 8-6. No. 3 doubles duo Parker Monson and Tanner Heyland secured the doubles sweep with a 9-8 (7-3) score.

Dallin Evans picked up another win with a 6-3, 6-0 defeat over Josh Johnson of Lynchburg. Brennan Alford lost his first set to Grady Allin and won the second by a 4-6 count to force a tiebreaker. Alford battled but fell by a 10-8 score. Cort Cox fell to Andrew Link by 6-1, 6-3 counts. Jordan Falinski trumped Kjell Henness by 6-0, 6-0 scores to cut the Knight lead to 5-3 with two matches left to play.

Parker Monson defeated Adam Murphy, 6-3, 6-2, to seal the victory for the Knights. Tanner Heyland secured the win as he beat Will Nsoesie by a 6-4, 6-4 score.

The Knights will stay home as it hosts Capital Athletic Conference foe, Penn St. Harrisburg on Saturday. The match is scheduled for Saturday at 11am at The Tennis Courts in Buena Vista, Virginia.
