Men's Tennis Falls to Virginia-Wise

BUENA VISTA, Va.— Despite Tanner Heyland's first collegiate victory the Southern Virginia University men's tennis team dropped its spring home opener to the University of Virginia at Wise, by a 6-3 score Wednesday afternoon at The Tennis Courts in Buena Vista, Virginia. 

In doubles play, Dallin Evans and Brennan Alford teamed up to defeat Andrii Rutnytskyi and Viktor Tunnikov (UVW) by an 8-3 score. As No. 2 doubles Kjell Henness and Cort Cox lost to their opponents. No. 3 duo Parker Monson and Tanner Heyland were defeated by an 8-6 score. 

In singles action the Knights saw two victories. Dallin Evans fell, 6-4, 6-1. In the No. 2 spot Brennan Alford lost by a 7-5, 6-1 score. Kjell Henness dropped his match by a 6-1, 6-0 score in the No. 3 singles spot. As the No. 5 singles spot Cort Cox lost 6-4, 7-5. Parker Monson was victorious over Charles Pollard (UVW) by a 7-5, 6-3 score in the No. 5 singles spot. Tanner Heyland earned his first collegiate win over Brandon Moore (UVW) by a 6-4, 6-2 score. 

The Knights will step back into conference play as it hosts Christopher Newport University on Saturday March 21. The matches are scheduled to start at 2 p.m. at The Tennis Courts in Buena Vista, Virginia.
