Men's Tennis falls to Bluefield

BUENA VISTA, Va. –The Southern Virginia University men's tennis team fell to visiting NAIA member Bluefield College on Thursday by a 6-3 margin.

In doubles competition, brothers Adam Blocher and Brian Blocher were the lone victors for the Knights as they edged out James Gunn and Chas Stonestreet 8-5. Bluefield took the other doubles matches by scores of 8-0 and 8-4.

B. Blocher also picked up one of two Knight victories in singles competition. At no. 6 singles, the Rockwood, Tennessee native beat the Rams' Ryan French in straight sets 6-1, 6-0. 

Freshman Zac Bowers had the other win for Southern Virginia at the No. 4 singles. In a tightly contested match, Bowers dropped the first set to Chas Stonestreet 3-6. The first year player showed composure and stormed back winning the second set 6-1 before taking the tie breaker 12-10.

Southern Virginia falls to 4-7 on the season while Bluefield improves to 3-9.

Men's tennis will look to bounce back this Saturday as it hosts Capital Athletic Conference foe St. Mary's College of Maryland. Start time is slated for 1 pm.
