YORK, Pa.—The Southern Virginia University men's tennis team earned a split during this weekend's two-game road trip defeating Hood College 9-0 on Friday, followed by a 9-0 loss at York College of Pennsylvania on Saturday.
"I am really proud of our effort and focus this weekend," said fifth-year Head Coach Tony Caputo. "I felt we were coming off one of our better weeks of practice after a tough loss at Randolph and we did a better job of playing through difficult weather and remaining focused. I credit a lot of that to the way our players practiced this week."
On Friday, Southern Virginia (4-2) swept Hood College (0-6) with each match being decided in straight sets. Freshman Pradeep Ravisankar (Chennai, India) registered his first collegiate victory despite the frigid temperatures.
On Saturday Southern Virginia (5-2) fell to future Capital Athletic Conference opponent York College (8-5). Brian Blocher (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) was the Knights lone hope for a singles victory, but lost a hard fought match to Nathaniel Hoskins 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (10-7).
Men's tennis will be in action on Wednesday, Mar. 27, when the Knights face Virginia Union University in Richmond, Va., at 3 p.m.
