WISE, Va.—The Southern Virginia University men's tennis team defeated the University of Virginia's College at Wise 8-1 on Saturday morning followed by a 9-0 win over Berea College in the afternoon to complete the most successful athletic season in Southern Virginia's 16-year history.
With Saturday's two wins, Southern Virginia closed out its season on a seven-game winning streak finishing at 15-1, while recording the best single-season winning percentage (.938) of any athletic team in the university's 16-year history.
The Knights began their banner season with eight straight wins—the longest winning streak in the program's history and the longest streak of road wins in school history—before losing to Randolph-Macon College on Mar. 27.
Southern Virginia bounced back from its only loss of the year, however, by rolling off seven straight matches on route to the program's first back-to-back ten-win seasons.
"I am so happy for our guys," said fourth-year head coach Tony Caputo. "They have worked so hard and improved all season. We have a great group young men with great attitudes and they really deserve this accomplishment."
