BUENA VISTA, Va. — The Southern Virginia University men's and women's tennis programs are hosting the University of Virginia's College at Wise for a doubleheader tomorrow, Saturday, Mar. 9 in Lexington, Va., on the Washington and Lee University Outdoor Tennis Courts.
The doubleheader will make history for both Southern Virginia men's and women's tennis as it will count as the first home contest in either program's five-year history.
Both men's and women's tennis are currently experiencing the best season in either programs' respective history.
Women's tennis began the season by winning its first ten matches and now stands at an impressive 11-2.
Men's tennis is currently 8-5 and has won seven of its last nine contests dating back to Oct. 1, 2010. Prior to this season, men's tennis had never been above .500 after the month of March.
UVA-Wise men's tennis enters Saturday's match at 1-5 on the season, while the UVA-Wise women's tennis team is 3-3.
"We are thrilled to play so close to our campus and this is something we hope to do more of in the future," said head women's tennis coach and acting athletic director Deidra Dryden.
"Our student-athletes have done a tremendous job juggling academics and athletics over the past five years—they have worked so hard and traveled so far that it will be very rewarding to see them have a chance to compete in front of their professors and peers."
Come support the Knights in their inaugural home tennis competition. The doubleheader will begin at 11 a.m. on the upper courts of Washington and Lee's outdoor facility. Directions to the campus and courts can be found at wlu.edu.
Following its match with UVA-Wise at 11 a.m., women's tennis will travel to Sweet Briar College for its second match of the day at 4 p.m.
