RICHMOND, Va. — The Southern Virginia University men's tennis team completed its second sweep of the season Tuesday afternoon with a 9-0 win over Virginia Union University.
Southern Virginia rolled through doubles play dropping only four games in three combined doubles wins.
The Knights' top duo of Shaolin Chandam and Stefan Vlassek were 8-2 winners at No. 1 doubles. Phillip Whiteley and Timothy Birch teamed for an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles while Adam Williford and Brennan Alford took the third-seeded doubles match by the same score.
Southern Virginia then won all six singles matches in straight sets.
Chandam won the top-seeded singles match 6-0, 6-3.
Phillip Whiteley defeated Virginia Union's second-seeded singles player in the closest match of the afternoon, 6-4, 6-4.
Vlassek (No. 3) and Alford (No. 6) each won their singles match without dropping a game.
Birch lost only one game in a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles and Williford was a 6-2, 6-1 winner in the fifth-seeded singles match.
Men's tennis, now 7-5 on the season, will play again on Monday, Apr. 4 at Shenandoah University. The match is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
