Jan-Willem Boer is the head men's soccer coach, he will be entering his second season at Southern Virginia University.
Boer's first season as the Knights head coach led to victories over Christendom, Emory & Henry, Bridgewater, and conference-foe Wesley.
Coach Boer served as an assistant coach to Josh Patino during the 2016 season.
The Netherlands native has over 40 years of coaching, playing, and training experience, at all levels and internationally. Most recently, Boer led the Rockbridge County High School boys’ soccer team to two consecutive winning seasons in three years, and was named coach of the year in 2014. The Wildcats won their conference championship in 2015 and made the state playoffs again in 2016.
Before moving to Lexington, Coach Boer spent 22 years in Minneapolis, Minnesota. While there, he developed the Cruz Azul Soccer Academy, franchise affiliate of the Cruz Azul professional team in Mexico City. He served as president and director of development of the academy from 2009-11, with 13 teams under his direction.
Before the academy, Boer served as the soccer and coaching director for the Urban Stars, a year-round soccer organization for youth ages 9-19. From 2005-08, he was the head men’s soccer coach at North Central University, an NCAA D-III program. From 1989-2003, he coached a number of youth, high school, and adult teams in Minnesota, including nine season at Spring Lake Park High School. He also started the boys’ varsity soccer program at Centennial High.
Boer’s coaching career began in 1973 with Haarlem United in The Netherlands. He joined the coaching ranks after suffering two knee injuries, which ended his 14-year international playing career. In addition to playing for Haarlem United, he played with other amateur clubs K.F.C. (AZ ’16 Alkmaar), VNU, and VSV Velzen.
