WINCHESTER, Va. — Sophomore Zach Martin played the role of the hero during Wednesday night's game as his goal was able to lift Southern Virginia University (1-4) past Shenandoah University (2-4) by a score of 1-0 for their first win of the 2019 season.
The first half would be in favor of the Hornets as they were able to get four shots on goal while the Knights were only able to get off one shot on goal by Sam Melo.
Each team would record one yellow card before the half ended with the score tied at 0-0.
The second half would have similar fashion as the hornets were able to continue getting numerous shots on goal.
Senior goalkeeper Jacob Solis and his defense stood tall as they were able to turn away every shot that the Hornets put on the goal as they forced extra time.
Solis collects his first win of the season at goal to go along with nine saves on the night while Melo recorded a game-high four shots.
Southern Virginia returns home on Saturday, September 14 as they take on Hampden-Sydney at 3 p.m.
