Knights Drop Season Opener to the Scots

MARYVILLE, Tenn. — The Southern Virginia University men's soccer team fell in their season opener Friday evening to Maryville 5-0.

The Knights (0-1) trailed early after a Scots (1-0) goal in the 14th minute to take a 1-0 lead. The Scots added one more goal in the 38th minute heading into the half up 2-0.

Despite an increased effort offensively from Southern Virginia in the second half, the Scots tacked on three more goals to give them the 5-0 victory.

The Knights recorded five shots on goal as a team out of a total of 12 shots.

Jacob Solis led the trio of goalkeepers for the Knights with eight saves. Zach Martin and Kanon Heaton led the Knights with three shot attempts each. 

Southern will look to bounce back tomorrow afternoon against Covenant at 2 p.m.
