BUENA VISTA, Va. – The Southern Virginia University men's soccer team fell to No. 13 Mary Washington on Wednesday 10-0.
The Eagles (12-1-3, 5-1-1 CAC) managed to break through a strong defensive effort by the Knights by scoring their first goal of the game in the 29th minute. The Eagles scored one more goal in the half, but the Knights (1-18, 0-7 CAC) were able to keep a strong defensive set the rest of the period to keep within striking distance while heading into the locker room.
Starting the second half, the Eagles scored six goals within 15 minutes while scoring two more late goals to secure their 10-0 victory over the Knights.
The goalkeeping remained solid for the Knights as keeper Jacob Solis had an impressive outing. The Eagles peppered Solis with 36 shots, but Solis stood tall as he recorded an outstanding 14 saves on the night while playing all 90 minutes.
The Knights have a rematch against the Eagles as they head into conference playoffs this Saturday. The Knights will travel to Fredericksburg, Va. as they look for their first-ever playoff win, with kickoff set for 1:30 p.m.
