FRONT ROYAL, Va. — The Southern Virginia University men's soccer team beat Christendom College on Saturday by a score of 4-2, in their first win of the season.

Southern Virginia (1-3) struck first with a goal in the fifth minute by midfielder Jeremy Wilson (Saratoga Springs, Utah), but the Crusaders (2-2) were able to answer right back with a goal four minutes later. Christendom put another in the back of the net in the 29th minute, but the teams went into halftime tied after senior Gregg Allen (Provo, Utah) connected on a penalty kick.

Sophomore Nathan Allen (Provo, Utah) gave the Knights the lead midway through the second half, scoring off of a nice pass from midfielder Marrott Weekes (Orem, Utah). Weekes came through again in the 77th minute, putting the game out of reach with the Knights' fourth and final goal.

Southern Virginia dominated the second half of the match, shooting 15 times to the Crusaders' four. Out of their 26 total shots, the Knights put an impressive 18 of them on frame. Wilson and both Gregg and Nathan Allen led the team with four shots on goal, while Weekes had three.

Senior goalkeeper Colin Flynn (Chesapeake, Va.) was credited with the win, finishing the game with six saves.

The Knights return home on Tuesday as they take on nearby Washington & Lee at Knights Stadium. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.
