Athletics Seeks Head Coach for Men’s Soccer Program

BUENA VISTA, Va.—Southern Virginia University Athletic Director Scott Y. Doxey today announced that the university has launched a nationwide search for a head men's soccer coach.

"At Southern Virginia, we want every single one of our scholar-athletes to have a great experience," said Doxey. "We feel that placing a committed and qualified head coach at the helm of each athletic program is vital to a great scholar-athlete experience and will ultimately lead to success in the highly competitive Capital Athletic Conference."

In fall 2013 — the Knights' inaugural season as members of the CAC — Matt Grawrock coached both the men's and women's soccer programs during his first year as the university's director of soccer. Grawrock guided the women's team to a 7-11-1 record, including a respectable 3-5-1 mark in the CAC, but the men's team struggled during its first year in the new conference, finishing 1-16-1 overall.

"We are very thankful for Matt's efforts during a challenging rebuilding year for our men's program," Doxey said. "Matt has had great success as our head women's coach over the past seven years and hiring a full-time men's soccer coach will allow him to return his focus to our women's program and his duties as athletics compliance officer."

Since becoming Southern Virginia's head women's soccer coach in 2007, Grawrock has compiled 53 career wins — more than any other women's soccer coach in school history. Grawrock has also led the women's program to tremendous postseason success, capturing a USCAA national championship in 2008, followed by fifth- and third-place finishes in 2009 and 2010, respectively.

"Over the past seven years, Matt has built our women's program into something special," said Doxey. "Each year his team has been highly competitive on the field and the players have been outstanding ambassadors of our university off the field and in the classroom. We are looking for the right person to build our men's program in a similar fashion."
