YORK, Pa.—Facing one of the top teams in the Capital Athletic Conference, the Southern Virginia University men's soccer team fell to York College (Pa.) by a 5-0 decision Saturday in York, Pa.
The Spartans (15-2) tallied a total of 37 shots, 17 of which were on goal to give them numerous scoring opportunities that the Knights (1-15-1) were unable to overcome. Southern Virginia was able to get three shots on goal for the game, but it was not enough to counter York's attack.
The match featured a close first half with the only goal coming from York's Charlie Versen in the sixth minute. Senior Kyle Tyree had a shot on goal towards the end of the first half for the Knights, but goalie Charlie Johnson made the save to keep the 1-0 lead for the Spartans.
In the second half, York took control of the match by scoring four goals to help seal the victory. Peter Lundgaard and Brendan Saberton each scored for the Spartans off assists from Jake Hower. Off another assist from Hower in the corner, Aaron Beale scored the final goal in the 83rd minute for York to make it 5-0.
Tyree and freshman Sean Breen had a shot on goal each in the second half for Southern Virginia, but the tandem was unable to find the back of the net.
Goalie Scott Zaring recorded 12 saves for the Knights.
