BUENA VISTA, Va.—The Southern Virginia men's soccer team extended its winning streak to three games with a 2-1 overtime home victory over NCAA Division III Marymount University on Wednesday.

"I'm pleased with our team's focus throughout the game," said sixth-year Head Coach Tony Caputo. "It was an exciting game to be a part of, especially winning the way we did."

With the score even at 1-1, Southern Virginia's (7-4) senior Ryan Foster (Custer, S.D.) made the game-winning goal at the 96:55 mark as he took a rebounded shot into the back of the net—Marymount's (3-5-2) goalie made a stop on the previous attempt from Adam Freeman (Marion, Va).

Marymount started the scoring charge taking the lead as forward Jorge Alvarado headed a corner kick into the net in the 29th minute for the only score of the first half.

"Even down by a goal at halftime, our players continued to believe in our game plan and executed down the stretch," said Caputo. "We were able to carry our energy level into the end of the game and control both ends of the field."

Both teams were held scoreless for the following 23 minutes until Southern Virginia's Freeman knotted the game (1-1) scoring his sixth goal of the season on a fast break shot into the right corner of the net at the 53:14 mark.

The Knights defense, led by senior captain Branden Seeberger (Forest, Va.), shut out Marymount in the final 70-plus minutes of the game.
