BUENA VISTA, Va.—The Southern Virginia University men's soccer team fell to NCAA Division III Emory & Henry College 2-0 at home Thursday afternoon in a physical match during which seven different players received yellow cards.
After being outshot 8-3 and falling behind by two goals in the opening period, Southern Virginia regrouped in the second half outshooting Emory & Henry 8-6 over the final 45 minutes.
Despite its second-half shot advantage, Southern Virginia was unable to break past the Wasps' tenacious defense as the Knights suffered their third shutout in four matches.
After going 4-4-2 during the first six weeks of the 2011 season, men's soccer is off until Wednesday, Oct. 5 when the Knights travel the short distance to Lexington, Va. for a match with Washington and Lee University at 4:30 p.m.
