Men's Soccer Wins Third Straight

BUENA VISTA, Va. – The Southern Virginia University men's soccer team had a pair of goals in each half of Wednesday's 4-1 home win over Patrick Henry College. The win marked the Knights third straight victory as they moved to 7-2 on the season.

The visitors struck first in Wednesday's match, as Patrick Henry found the net in the 15th minute of play. This early deficit ignited the Knights, who stepped up their intensity and controlled the remainder of the contest.

Senior defender Chris Teerlink evened the score for Southern Virginia at the 37:48 mark on a free kick that he pushed past Patrick Henry's keeper. Teerlink, who leads all Knights with 7 goals this season, scored again just before the half to give Southern Virginia its first lead of the match.

The Knights carried their momentum into the second half as senior forward Austin Bridge scored his second goal of the season just two minutes into the period.  Freshman midfielder Brady Johnson scored his third goal of the season two minutes later, on an assist from Teerlink, who also leads the Knights with 6 assists.

The score would remain 4-1, as the Knights defense stifled the Patrick Henry attack, holding PHC scoreless after its initial goal. Southern Virginia outshot Patrick Henry 26-4 for the match.

The Knights will have a week off until they host Washington and Lee University next Wednesday, Oct. 6 at The Fields. The match has a 4 p.m. start time.
