WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. The Southern Virginia men's soccer team traveled to play Penn College, and could not find a win against the fellow USCAA member, falling 1-0. The knights carried momentum into the game after beating Gallaudet the previous week, and were looking to score a win to help bolster a strong start to the season.
PC had other ideas, and took the game to the Knights. The hosts were able to record 18-shots on the Knights, with eight shots requiring saves from the SVU team. Ben May and Richard Crist shared time in goal, with the duo recording 7-saves.
Penn College was able to keep the Knights under pressure all night, as they finished the first half with 8-shots in the first half, and followed up with another ten in the second term. SVU was finding offense to be a difficult task, but was led by Tyler Laurent, who took three shots for the game with one on frame. SVU finished with 6-shots total, and four shots on goal.
Penn College was able to register the winning goal early on in the second half, as the Nittany Lions beat Crist within the first two minutes of the half. Brady Johnson and Chris Teerlink had other opportunities for the visitors to even up the game, but could not find the scoring touch to get the game back to a tie. A contentious affair saw both teams in double-digit fouls, with SVU recording 14, and the hosts racking up 12.
The loss drops the Knights to 4-2 on the season. SVU will look to get back to winning ways when they continue on the road trip to play at Williamson Trade. Game time is set for 7:00 pm.
