BURLINGTON, Vt. Senior Midfielder Cisco Osegueda was announced as a USCAA Honorable Mention All-American. Osegueda, from Mesa, AZ, was the leading scorer for the Knights in the 2009 season. He scored 12 goals, and assisted on 5 other goals.
"I'm very proud of Cisco's accomplishments this year," said Head Coach Tom Longenecker. "He took on a leadership role for us this year, and won some games for us with his play. He has earned this award, and I'm extremely happy for him. This is a great way to end your college career. We'll miss his play next year."
The Knights also had awards given to two players who produced fine academic performances. Christian Blackwelder and David Haws were named to the Academic All-American Team.
To be named to this team, a player must have over a 3.5 cumulative GPA, and be a sophomore or higher at the school they attend.
Haws, a senior from Bridgeport, W.V., was a sweeper for the 2009 team, and played midfield in 2008. Playing in all games, Haws scored two goals coming from the back, and was an inspirational leader for the Knights, as they had the first winning season for the program since 2004.
Blackwelder, a junior defender from Apoka, Fl., played in eight of the teams competitions and chipped in an assist for the season. Blackwelder was a valued asset for the team coming off of the bench and helping the Knights the winning record.
"This is a fantastic accomplishment for these young men," said Longenecker. "We want all of our players to be the best players on the field. However, we are just as pleased when they demonstrate excellence in the classroom. These award show that they excel at more than just a sport."
