BUENA VISTA, Va. Acting Athletic Director Deidra Dryden has announced the hiring of Jedd Zaring as head coach of the Southern Virginia Men’s Soccer team. Zaring replaces Tom Longenecker. Zaring comes to the position after a lengthy tenure at Jefferson Forest High School in Lynchburg, Va.
He has coached at Jefferson Forest since 1993, and has registered a great amount of success at the school. Jefferson Forest has been Seminole District Champions for 17-straight years under, Zaring, and has made six trips to the state tournament. Zaring has amassed a 285-48-15 record as one of the premier high school programs in the state of Virginia.
“As we looked for someone to take over the program, we wanted someone who could move our team to the next level,” said Dryden. “Our men’s team has a history of success, but we have struggled the past few seasons. 2009 was a strong showing for the program, and we feel that this hiring will produce similar results, and hopefully a return to the post-season.”
Zaring will inherit a team that went 8-5-1, and returns a solid core of players primed to make a run at the USCAA National Tournament for the first time since 2004. The Knights’ men’s team will not be Zaring’s first trip on the sidelines of a collegiate team, as he was the head coach fro Sweet Briar from 1989-1992.
"I'm confident Jedd has the credentials and experience to teach our players what it takes to be successful," said Dryden. "I look forward to seeing his teams play, and look forward to the Knights winning games under his guidance."
He also is the founder and director of the Blue Ridge Soccer Academy. He has been named a Virginia High School Coaches Association Coach of the Year, and a National High School Coaches Association Coach of the Year finalist. Zaring is a member of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, and holds an Advanced National Diploma.
Zaring is the managing partner of Blue Ridge Soccer and Sports in Lynchburg, Va. Zaring will begin his responsibilities immediately.
