Southern Virginia University Men’s Soccer has announced
its 2009 schedule. The Knights face familiar foes, and welcome new
ones as theylook to make a return trip to the USCAA National
tournament for the first time in five years. The Knights will host
seven games this year, and will look to christen the brand new SVU
Soccer Field with wins to get them in contention for the
postseason.
SVU will open the season with the first home competition ever on
the fields as they play Patrick Henry College on the 24th of
August. The following week the Knights will welcome a familiar foe
in Bridgewater College. The Knights lost a close game to
Bridgewater last year, and will look for revenge on the home
grounds. The Knights will then hit the road for two games against
Bluefield and Ferrum. Both competitions last year resulted in close
games and ties, and the Knights will look to come out on top this
season. The following week on the 15th of September the Knights
will welcome Washington & Lee to the new fields.
A road trip will then be in store for the team as they travel to
play four different schools in the next two weeks. The trip will
start first with Averett, followed by a double-header trip with the
women to Chowan. A trip to Washington D.C. to play Gallaudet will
follow with a final game against Christendom on the 27th of
September ending the road trip. The end of the month brings Patrick
Henry back to play the Knights at home on the 30th of September.
October opens with a three-game home stretch against Averett,
Gallaudet and West Virginia Tech. The Knights will finish up the
season on the 23rd of October against Division I opponent Liberty
whom they played tough last year eventually falling 3-0.
SVU then will look to the USCAA National Tournament which is
scheduled to be held from the 5th of November to the 7th, with a
site to be determined soon. The team will look to improve upon
their 4-7-3 record form a year ago as they look to qualify for
nationals.
