Knights Unable to Overcome First-Half Deficit

BUENA VISTA, Va. Four first-half goals proved to be too much for the Southern Virginia Men's Soccer team, as they fell to West Virginia Tech 4-1. The Knights were outshot 26-6 on the day and fall to 7-4-1 for the season.

A back and forth affair in the opening moments of the game soon changed as the Golden Bears were able to strike from a free kick in the 6th minute of the game. Both teams were aggressive throughout, and the stats show as they both racked up 44 fouls and 5 yellow cards between both teams.

The Golden Bears struck again in the 27th minute, as the Knights had no answer for the passing game of the visitors. Keeper Ben May pulled the ball out of the back of the net two more times in the first half as West Virginia Tech put the game away before intermission.

Francisco Osegueda continued his good form as he sent home a free kick in the second half to put the Knights on the board. This would end the scoring for the day, but both teams continued to attack the opposition's goal without success.

"This wasn't our day," said Head Coach Tom Longenecker. "We started slow, and never recovered. Hopefully we learn our lesson, and play with a better intensity next time."

The Knights will travel for their next games as they face off against NCAA Division I. foe Liberty University. The game scheduled for Oct.23 has a scheduled kickoff of 7:00 pm.
