SVU Falls to NCAA Div. I Foe Liberty

LYNCHBURG, Va. An overpowering Liberty Men's Soccer team was too much for Southern Virginia, as the Knights fell 7-0. SVU surrendered three goals in the first half, and then let in the last four in the second term. The Knights fall to 7-5-1 on the season.

Liberty, an NCAA Division I school, started the scoring at the 15 minute mark of the first period and never looked back. Goalkeeper Ben May was under constant bombardment from the hosts, and played well, despite the score line, recording 10 saves for the visitors.

"A game like this should be a wake-up call for our team," said Head Coach Tom Longenecker. "It shows the guys that there is always someone a little better. We need to learn from this experience, and work a little harder so that we can get better too."

The Knights faced several shots in the game, as the defense was under a tremendous amount of pressure. The Flames were able to record 37 shots to the Knights' 8. Liberty held the lead in almost all categories for the night, and received goals from five different players.

The nights will finish up the regular season as they host Concord, Oct. 30 at 3:30. The Knights will honor the seniors from the 2009 team before the game begins.
