Chad Mahaffey has been the head athletic trainer at Southern Virginia University since 2005, overseeing atheltic training for the university's 17 athletic teams. He is also an assistant men's lacrosse coach and adjunct instructor of several physical education courses.
Mahaffey came to Southern Virginia from Brigham Young University where he served as a graduate assistant trainer for the Cougars’ 2004 track and field season. He also served as the first assistant athletic trainer for the BYU football team in 2003.
Prior to his time at BYU, Mahaffey gained athletic training experience working with several organizations, including the San Francisco 49ers (2003), the New York Jets (2002), the Utah Iron Man Triathlon (2001) and the Junior Olympics Volleyball Tournament (2001).
Mahaffey has a B.S. in athletic training and master's degree in sports medicine from BYU. He is certified in First Aid, CPR and AED, is a certified member of the National Athletic Training Association and is a licensed athletic trainer in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
He and his wife, Michelle, reside in Buena Vista with their four children.
