Trio of Knights Earn VaSID Men's Lacrosse All-State First Team Honors

BRIDGEWATER, Va. — The Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) announced the 2019-2020 VaSID Men's Lacrosse All-State Teams with Southern Virginia University's juniors Ty Veres, Zach Danneman, and Tennison Schmidt earning first-team honors.

The Knights earned several program milestones with the postseason awards. The selections mark the most players selected to all-state teams, the first time multiple athletes have earned all-state honors while all three athletes being the first to earn first-team honors in program history.  Southern Virginia held its best start to the season ever going 7-1 before the end of the year with the offensive unit finishing No. 1 in the nation averaging 18.5 goals per game and scoring 148 goals in eight games.

After an injury-riddled 2019 campaign, Veres became the first midfielder in program history to be recognized with postseason honors after finishing his 2020 season second on the team in total goals scored as a midfielder with 25, placing him tenth in the country in overall goals scored. With five assists added to his season, Veres brings his career point total to 66 in just 29 games played so far. The Castlerock, Colorado native, concluded his junior year bringing in 17 ground balls and causing 11 turnovers.

Picking up where he left off last year, Danneman concluded his junior year atop the team in scoring with 33 goals in eight games crediting him with a No. 2 finish in the country just one goal shy of Arcadia's Clo Muscara's 34 goals. With 42 points on the year, the Acworth, Georgia native finished No. 6 in the nation in total points while bringing in 35 ground balls, causing 13 turnovers and going 5-for-12 at the faceoff x.

Following a stellar 2020 season, Schmidt anchored the highly talented offense finishing sixth in the nation and first on the team in assists with 21 while finishing twelfth in the country and leading the team in total points with 45 (24g, 21a). The Salt Lake City, Utah native's competitive play earned him consecutive CAC Player of the Week awards after scoring 21 points in the form of 13 goals and eight assists in victories over Pfeiffer, Rhodes, and the United States Merchant Marine Academy. Schmidt concluded the shortened season, bringing in 15 ground balls, causing three turnovers while recording a 42.1 shooting percentage.

VaSID names 44 all-state teams in 23 sports each year, as well as an Academic All-State squad and an all-sports champion in both the University and College Divisions. Membership in VaSID is open to all media relations professionals working at a university or conference in the state of Virginia.
