NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — The Southern Virginia University men's lacrosse dropped their Capital Athletic Conference opener late in the final quarter Saturday afternoon the No. 14 Christopher Newport Captains 15-10.
The Knights (5-6, 0-1 CAC) started the game strong taking a 4-2 lead at the end of the fourth quarter on back-to-back Zach Danneman goals.
The script flipped in the second quarter with the Captains (8-3, 1-0 CAC) scoring five consecutive goals to outscore the Knights 6-2, capturing the lead at the half 8-6.
In the third quarter, neither team could extend or cut into the lead heading into the final quarter with the Knights still trailing the Captains 11-9.
The Knights struggled in the fourth quarter, allowing four Captains goal while being held to just one goal for the period, handing the Knights the 15-10 loss.
Despite being dealt the loss, goalie Ian Arave tallied 19 saves, reaching a milestone for the Knights with his 500th save of his career.
The Knights look to bounce back Saturday, Mar. 30 in front of their home crowd against St. Mary's (Md.) at 2:00 p.m.
