BUENA VISTA, Va. — The Southern Virginia University men's lacrosse team secured a 21-10 victory Tuesday evening at Knight Stadium over Hendrix College.
The Knights (5-5, 0-0) led the entire game and reached several milestones for Southern Virginia.
Junior Shawn Lawn made history surpassing the 200 point mark for his career making him the first Knight to do so in program history.
Zach Danneman hit the 100 point milestone after today's game. Over the past three games, Danneman has scored 20 goals setting a new school record for the most goals in a three-game period in program history.
The first half was all Knights as they outscored the Warriors (4-4, 0-1) 5-1 in the first quarter and 8-4 in the second to claim a 13-5 lead at the half.
In the second half, the Warriors improved their defense but could not keep the Knights from scoring being outscoring them 8-5 to make the final score 21-10.
At goal for Southern Virginia was Ian Arave who tallied 10 saves on 18 shots for the win.
Eight different Knights found the back of the net with Danneman's six leading the way. Tennison Schmidt earned nine points on the day with five goals and a game-high four assists while Chandler Wescott and Isaac DeGarlais added four and two goals.
The Knights totaled 54 shots on the game with 31 on goal, picked up more ground balls 53-32 and won the turnover battle committing eight fewer than the Warriors.
Southern Virginia begins conference play on the road Saturday, Mar. 23 at 1:00 p.m. against No. 14 Christopher Newport.
