BUENA VISTA, Va. — The Southern Virginia University men's lacrosse team suffered a tough loss to Muhlenberg College Saturday afternoon, falling 17-13.
In the first quarter, the Knights (3-4) and the Mules (4-1) went back-and-forth with the quarter ending tied 4-4.
A pivotal second quarter changed the momentum against the Knights as the Mules outscored the Knights 4-1 in the quarter with two of those goals coming in the last 35 seconds of the half giving extending the lead to 8-5.
In the third quarter, both teams scored five goals apiece with the Mules managing to keep the Knights at bay, leading 13-10.
The Knights failed to close the gap in the Mules three-point lead in the final quarter, falling 17-13.
Sophomore Payton Kimber led the Knights' offense with a career-high five goals while also adding an assist. Shawn Lamb led the team with three assists. Chandler Wescott recorded three goals and a pair of assists while Tennison Schmidt and Zach Danneman each scored a pair of goals. Ian Arave was at goal where he collected 17 saves.
James Dalimonte led Muhlenberg with a game-high six goals.
The Knights head to play Connecticut College in a neutral site game at John Hopkins in Baltimore, Maryland Wednesday, Mar. 13 at 12 p.m.
