Knights Dealt Loss by Mariners

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va.— The Southern Virginia University men's lacrosse team fell 24-16 Wednesday afternoon in a neutral site game in Virginia Beach, Virginia, against Merchant Marine.

The Knights (3-3) trailed the Mariners (2-0) 6-4 after two quick scores to ended the first period. The second period Merchant Marine built upon their lead outscoring the Knights 7-2 to take a 13-6 lead at the half.

Southern Virginia attempted a comeback in the third quarter outscoring the Mariners 6-4 to cut into the lead with the score now 17-12 but Merchant Marine regained momentum to close out the Knights in the final quarter sealing a 24-16 win.

Tennison Schmidt, Chandler Wescott, and Payton Wimber led the Knights with four goals each. Zach Danneman and Shawn Lamb led the Knights with six ground balls apiece while Danneman also added three goals.

The Knights return for a matchup at home against Muhlenberg Saturday, Mar. 9 at 1:00 p.m.
