BUENA VISTA, Va. —The Southern Virginia University men's lacrosse team earned a tough 11-8 win over the Panthers of Birmingham-Southern College on Saturday afternoon.
The Knights (3-1) came out on fire, taking a 4-0 lead on the Panthers (2-2) at the end of the first quarter.
Birmingham-Southern cut into Southern Virginia's lead in the second as they outscored them 5-2 in the period, sending the game to the locker-room with the Knights on top 6-5.
The third period was slow for both teams as the only goal of the quarter came at the 4:02 mark for the Panthers, tying up the game at six.
Southern Virginia dominated the fourth quarter of play, outscoring the Panthers 5-2 en route to their third win of the season, 11-8.
Tennison Schmidt led the way for the Knights with four goals on all four of his shot attempts along with a pair of assists. Shawn Lamb and Zach Danneman also had solid outings for Southern Virginia each scoring three goals and Danneman adding two assists.
In goal, Ian Arave had 16 saves for the Knights on 24 total shots by the Panthers.
Southern Virginia returns to action as they will travel to Stockton University to face-off against the Ospreys on the 2nd of March at 11 a.m.
