Knights Dominate Falcons in Home-Opener

BUENA VISTA, Va. — The Southern Virginia University men's lacrosse team overpowered Pfeiffer University in their home-opener Saturday afternoon, winning 24-10.

The Knights (2-0) balanced attack lead to an 8-1 advantage after the first quarter with seven different players scoring.

Southern Virginia looked to extend the lead in the second quarter outscoring the Falcons (1-1) 7-4 pushing the score to 15-5 at the half. Shawn Lamb led the Knights with three goals in the quarter.

In the third quarter, Knights once again outscored the Falcons 8-3 to build a sizable lead at 23-8.

The fourth quarter was the only quarter the Knights were outscored (2-1). The lone goal for the Knights came by Russ Anderson making the final score 24-10.

Lamb anchored the Southern Virginia offense with five goals and two assists. Zach Danneman, Payton Kimber, Schmidt, and Chandler Wescott each netted three goals. Cavin Hunstman led the team in groundballs with five.

Ian Arave recorded eight saves in goal while teammates Caleb Brodie and Jason Siaosi combined for eight saves.

The Knights hit the road as they face Messiah Wednesday, Feb. 20 at 4:00 p.m.
