FREDERICKSBURG, Va. — The Capital Athletic Conference released the 2019 Men's Lacrosse Preseason Poll today, with Southern Virginia projected to finish sixth.
Southern Virginia made their third straight appearance at the CAC Tournament tying for fourth place in the conference. The Knights recorded the most wins in program history going 10-8 overall and a 4-4 split in the CAC.
This season the Knights will return a large cast. Shawn Lamb returns after a strong sophomore season leading the CAC in points and earning First Team All-CAC, VaSid All-State Second Team and IMCLA Honorable Mention honors.
Other returners include the trio of Tennison Schmidt, Ty Veres and Carter Bean, who last season combined for 70 goals and 47 assists. Seniors Brady Cook and goalkeeper Ian Arave will anchor the Southern Virginia defense.
Former CAC Rookie of the Year Zach Danneman joins the Knights after returning from a mission. Danneman was second on the team in goals and points his freshman season with 39 and 49 respectively.
CAC Champions and last year's national runner-up Salisbury was tabbed to repeat as conference winners with five votes. York (Pa.) placed second as the only other team to receive votes with two.
Southern Virginia starts their regular season Tuesday, Feb. 12 at Catholic University, beginning at 4:00 p.m.
