MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Southern Virginia University men's lacrosse team suffered a narrow 8-7 defeat Saturday afternoon to the hands of Rhodes College.

The Lynx (4-1) scored the first goal of the game in just under a minute, but back-to-back goals within 24 seconds gave the Knights (4-3) the 2-1 advantage. Each team scored again before a Rhodes goal under two minutes left knotted the score at three after the first quarter.

Rhodes scored the only goal of the second period, taking a one-point lead into halftime.

With 2:09 left in the third, the Knights took a 6-5 lead after scoring their third goal of the quarter. Over the next four minutes, spanning two quarters, the Lynx scored three goals to take an 8-6 lead with 12:58 left in the game.

Although Southern Virginia scored less than two minutes later, the Knights were unable to overcome the deficit and fell 8-7, the lowest scoring game of the season the Knights and their opponents.
