BUENA VISTA, Va. — The Southern Virginia University men's lacrosse team suffered a 19-9 non-conference loss Wednesday night against the United States Merchant Marine Academy.
The Knights (4-2) broke the Mariners (2-0) three-goal lead with a Shawn Lamb goal ten minutes into the first quarter. Seconds later, Merchant Marine answered back, and closed out the quarter with another 3-1 lead to take a 6-2 advantage after one. The offensive pressure continued and the Mariners took an 11-3 lead at the half and a 17-5 lead after three periods.
Southern Virginia outscored USMMA 4-2 in the fourth, bringing the final score to 19-9.
Lamb finished the evening with a pair of goals and an assist. Ty Veres led the Knights with three goals and dished an assist. Tennison Schmidt found the back of the net twice during the contest and Rich and Anthony Good each recorded a goal.
Bostin Priesler recorded the loss and had seven saves. Ian Arave saw 35 minutes in goal, picking up six saves.
The Knights hit the road on Saturday for a 2 p.m. game at Rhodes College.
