GREENSBORO, Va. – The Southern Virginia men's lacrosse team picked up a big win on Saturday, taking down Guilford College by a score of 13-12 in a tightly contested game.
The Knights (3-0) picked up the win as Tennison Schmidt scored the go-ahead goal with 5:11 left in the game to give the team a 13-12 advantage, and the defense bore down to not allow the Quakers (1-2) to score for the last 7:07.
After a 3-3 first quarter, the Knights scored four unanswered goals to take a 7-3 lead but the Quakers responded right away to cut the lead to two at halftime. The second half was a back-and-forth affair before Schmidt's goal put the Knights on top for good.
Scoring a pair of goals each for Southern Virginia were Schmidt, Colin Maxfield, Mike Anderson, and Shawn Lamb. Reigning CAC Offensive Player of the Week Seth Garff added a goal and two assists, while Lamb dished out two assists as well. Freshman Jace Thomas also performed well, winning 22 of 28 faceoffs and picking up 16 ground balls.
Freshman Bostin Preisler picked up the win in goal, ending the game with 14 saves.
