MISENHEIMER, N.C. — A 24-20 road victory gave the Southern Virginia University men's lacrosse team it's second win of the season over Pfeiffer University.
The Knights (2-0), who only scored one goal in the first quarter against Ferrum on Wednesday, buried 10 goals in the first quarter against Pfeiffer (1-1), including the first goal of the game just two minutes into the period.
The attack slowed down in the second quarter, as the Knights added four to their total to take a 14-8 lead at the half.
Nine more goals came for the Knights in quarter number three and a single goal came in the fourth for the Knights to finish with 24. The Falcons scored 12 goals in the second half, and outscored Southern Virginia 5-1 in the fourth but came up short.
Seth Garff led the Knights' attack with six goals, Shawn Lamb, Brady Cook and Carter Bean each recorded a hat trick. Lamb dished four assists along with Ty Veres, who also had a pair of goals. Colin Maxfield, Jacob Lamb, Isaac DeGarlais, Tennison Schmidt, Anthony Good were the other scorers.
Freshman goalkeeper Boston Preisler earned his second win of the seasons with three quarters in goal and eight saves. The Knights won the ground ball battle 57-23 and won 38 of 48 faceoffs.
Southern Virginia will look to make it three straight as it heads to Guilford College next Saturday for a 1 p.m. face off. The Quakers beat the Knights last year 14-4.
