By Luke Christiansen

FREDERICKSBURG, Va.—In its first road Capital Athletic Conference appearance, the Southern Virginia University men's lacrosse team fell to No. 16 Mary Washington, 19-1, Saturday afternoon at The Battleground Athletic Complex in Fredericksburg, Va.

"Today was a great opportunity for our team to see another nationally ranked CAC opponent," stated head coach Jason Lamb. "We are not ready to match up with Mary Washington. They are a quality NCAA DIII program. It's exciting to envision our future, and we will continue to build our team to compete in this great conference."

Freshman Mike Bangerter provided the scoring for the Knights, adding a late goal to give him six goals on the season. Freshman Ibrahim Kargbo led the way on defense, causing two turnovers for the Knights.

Down 19-0 in the fourth quarter, Bangerter dodged from behind the goal and past his defender to put the Knights on the board.

Mary Washington outshot the Knights by a 40-10 ratio and won the ground ball battle, 46-13. The Eagles also earned 21 of 24 faceoffs for the game, while the Knights were unable to capitalize on six man upopportunities.

Tyler Cox recorded a game-high six saves on the afternoon as the goalkeeper for the Knights.

The Knights return to action this next Saturday at home in a matchup with No. 18 St. Mary's (Md). Faceoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at The Fields.
